The Trudeau government has significantly increased its financial and military support to Ukraine, overturning a previous decision to send only non-lethal weaponry.
On February 14, 2022, the Prime Minister announced Canada will provide a $500-million loan and $7.8 million worth of lethal equipment and ammunition to Ukraine. He said the pledge is on top of a previously announced $120-million loan and non-lethal weapons that Canada has already provided to Ukraine.
Defence Minister Anita Anand Tweeted photos showing a planeload of weapons being unloaded in Ukraine.
Today, our @CanadianForces made a second delivery of lethal military aid to support our Ukrainian partners. Russia’s further invasion of a sovereign state is absolutely unacceptable, and we will continue to stand by Ukraine as the country defends its sovereignty and independence. pic.twitter.com/lYZRIu8JOE
