Nuclear petition to be read in Parliament on Feb 16
Elizabeth May MP will read the petition in Parliament on Tuesday at 10 AM ET
Remember signing the House of Commons e-petition calling for Canada to sign the UN Nuclear Ban Treaty?
Back in December, hundreds of PeaceQuest supporters answered a request from Halifax’s Nancy Covington to sign the e-petition, with the promise that if it received 500 signatures it would be presented in Parliament by the Green Party’s Elizabeth May MP (Saanich—Gulf Islands).
By the time the e-petition closed on February 6, 2021, it had garnered 1954 signatures. Elizabeth May, the e-petition's sponsor, will read the petition in Parliament on Tuesday, February 16 at 10 AM ET.
According to Elizabeth May’s office, petitions are read during a part of the day called Routine Proceedings, which starts just after 10 AM ET on Tuesdays. With any luck, it will only take them 5-10 minutes to get to the petitions part of Routine. Live streaming of the proceedings is available at parlvu.parl.gc.ca (you may have to select "HoC Sitting No. 59" from the list of streams).
