Carney is using the pretence of "defence" to create a war industry based on the assumption that it will give a spur to the economy. The fact is that these investments are enhancing U.S. companies' profits while starving Canadians of essential social services, such as expansion of denticare and pharmacare. Carney and the Liberal Party are continentalists ideologically—junior partners to American imperialism. The term "defence" is a euphemism for destructive war production—destructive to humans, particularly in countries that the American capitalists want to dominate—and it's a term that principled critics should disdain. It's war profiteering and it is violence against human beings and the earth system.

I voted for "Keeping Canada safe", but in my view, this very much includes keeping Canada safe from Trump.

None of the above. It is only being done because it is not yet a capital offense to make money from war, and is often very profitable. Outlaw private wealth to get a true civilization.

The opinions and conclusions are the familiar ones. Feeling stale and outside the strategic context for Canada finding itself left undefended in 2024. The luxury of expressing an opinion outside the confines of facts. There is an important discussion here but it’s not the old ‘buying American’ alarm.
