The United States has announced it is sending cluster bombs to Ukraine, weapons that have been banned under a UN treaty ratified by over 100 other countries, including Canada.
A Canadian expert says the weapons have been used by both Russia and Ukraine, but “the further use of cluster munitions would be a tragic mistake.” Cluster bombs spread hand grenade-sized bomblets – but many don’t explode. More than 95% of cluster munition victims throughout the world have been civilians.
