The Biden White House and its meaning for peace
U.S. peace activists present their views on how President-elect Joe Biden might shift U.S. policy
The International Peace Bureau convened a panel today on the Biden White House, asking “What will it mean for peace?” The panel comprised U.S. peace activists who presented their preliminary views how President-elect Joe Biden might shift U.S. policy.
Several speakers remarked that the outcome of the U.S. election, which was held on November 3, is still not fully determined.
While Democratic Presidential Candidate Joe Biden has won enough votes and has declared victory, President Donald Trump is contesting the vote results and has not conceded.
“It’s not over yet,” said panelist Joseph Gerson. “I was up a bit last night after getting a note from Noam Chomsky, saying the outcome is much in doubt. The Republicans in the administration are planning a virtual coup, and the outcome is not certain.”
Speakers:
Joseph Gerson, president of the Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security
Emily Rubino, Director of Policy and Outreach at Peace Action New York State
Daunasia Yancey, founder and organizer of the Boston chapter of the Black Lives Matter Global Network
Paul Martin, Senior Director for Policy and Political Affairs at Peace Action
The event was chaired by Lisa Clark, IPB Co-President.
