The last ballots have been counted in the 44th general election, and things look pretty much as they were at the outset in terms of the make-up of the new Parliament.
The Liberals have the most seats, but not a majority. The Conservatives return to form the Official Opposition. Both the Bloc Quebecois and the NDP have enough seats, and therefore votes, to help the Liberals pass legislation and avoid defeat by the Conservatives.

Some key issues emerged in the campaign: climate change, health care, gun control, and of course, the pandemic. Foreign policy was largely absent, save for the incredible collapse of the Western-backed Afghanistan Government, prompting a rush of emigration from the country in the last days as the Taliban took control.
Issues aside, the election witnessed significant political developments: the loss of many votes for the Green Party, while the far-right People’s Party rose dramatically in the polls. The shift of attention to the PPC coincided with unsettling anti-vaccine protests in front of hospitals.
