We received this exciting news from our friends Teresa and Denis in Vancouver for the annual White Peace Poppies campaign.
After an unexplained 3 1/2 week customs delay, our 2022 White Peace Poppies are now available for distribution. Because of the shortened time frame it is more important than ever to get your orders in ASAP.
If you've ordered from us in the past you'll notice that both the appearance of the poppy and the suggested donation prices have changed.
This year's poppies are paper-based, fully recyclable and plastic-free with a clever pin attachment; they're produced by a workers’ cooperative in East London and somewhat more expensive to produce.
That increase, plus the combination of a sharp rise in subsidized school orders (good); and a steep decline in depot sales because fewer people are carrying cash (bad) means that we've had to increase the suggested donations in order to achieve our goal of breaking even on the overall campaign.
We are seeing a growing willingness to broaden the focus of Remembrance Day, and in the use of white poppies to counter-balance the military focus of the red poppy campaign. This is reflected by the many new orders we receive each year, and by increased interest from school administrators in incorporating the white poppy's message into school-wide curriculums. Please help to get the word out, especially to any teachers or students you know. Our website contains order forms, testimonials, school campaign ideas, links and downloads, plus posters and printable white poppies for do-it-yourselfers.
In 2021 our 6th annual Nov 11th 'Let Peace be Their Memorial’ ceremony (a hybrid event with both a live and online audience) was well attended, so we'll be continuing with the hybrid format this year.
If you need a receipt please use the order forms, otherwise you can just email the relevant information to info@peacepoppies.ca.
Payment is by cash, cheque (payable to T. Gagné) or by Interac e-Transfer (details on website) and prices listed include postage, pins & our colourful ‘business card’ leaflets. With larger orders we can include free colour posters.
We run our campaign as a consciousness raiser not a fundraiser. Prices below are the suggested donation, set to cover our basic costs and allow us to provide subsidized poppies to schools and low-income communities. Additional donations help us meet the growing demand in these areas. Prices listed include 1st class postage within Canada.
10 poppies $20;
25 poppies $40;
50 poppies $70
We encourage you to start wearing and distributing poppies right away to help get the message out. "Because remembering is important, but it isn't enough."
