spending less means to me spending less on war and related war equipment / machinery!
spending that much more on war mongering clearly means cuts in public services, climate crisis measures and all that which create true safety and better health for us Canadians and the rest of the world.
Canada should be spending the wasted military budget (on no known enemy unless it is the U.S.) on the climate crisis that is the greatest security threat to Canadians. Instead it is spending those tax dollars and borrowed money on its adherence to the will of Donald Trump and NATO. According to Public Accounts of Canada 2023-2024 Canada is spending nearly $32 billion on National Defence while spending only $2.4 billion on Natural Resources or 13 times more on mostly U.S. weapons merchants and their shareholders, than on protecting nature which defends Canadians from the real threat to our security, the climate crisis.
I sure pinned a lot of hope on Carney's one good, prescient speech, but now I realize that his only concern about environmental collapse is how it might affect private wealth at obscene levels. He is a dedicated parasite on normal humanity.
Although I voted for increasing taxes, I also think we should drastically decrease the military budget. The euphemism "defence spending" was adopted in the late 1940s by the U.S. from the former characterization "war spending". It is almost ironic that the U.S. state department has ripped off the guise and reverted to blunt war talk and characterization. Carney has inherited the Liberal Party's continentalist and semi-colonialist approach to the U.S. as its junior partner. This has the effect of continuing to feed America's bloated war industry, the same one being used to feed Israel's genocide machine. I believe very much in the Waffle's slogan for an independent, socialist Canada. That means all the priorities are for public health, the survival of the environment and humans, anti-racism, and a real future for humanity.

Occasionally a comment is stunning. Do you actually believe what you just said?
