Pollsters have been taking the pulse of Canadians’ views on Ukraine. You may be wondering how your own views compare to others.

We put together this quiz based on a comprehensive poll taken by one of Canada’s most respected public research firms, Abacus Data. They polled 1,464 Canadian adults from March 4th to 8th, 2022.

We selected a few of their questions for you to answer. Read the question, mark your response, and then we will show you what the Abacus Data poll found in its Canada-wide poll.

The West cheered and supported the bombing and destruction of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Serbia, Somalia, Syria, and the assaults in Africa and Asia. We fund the slaughter of Yemenis and Palestine – including offering unconditional support to Israel’s genocidal agenda – but when Russia attacks Ukraine we are ready to embark on World War III and destroy our planet! We are not supposed to acknowledge that Russia sacrificed 27 million in WWII vs 800,000 by US and that Russia was given assurance in exchange for agreeing to German reunification that NATO would never expand one inch east. Disregarding the agreement NATO continued to expand East eventually establishing immense military installations on Russia’s Western border. We are not supposed to mention the role NATO and especially US and Canada played in precipitating the current crisis, the coup orchestrated by US and Canada in 2014 to replace the democratically elected president of Ukraine and instal a president subservient to NATO, the repeated violations of the Minsk peace treaties by US and Ukraine, the anti-Russia propaganda campaign over the last 8 years including millions US spent smearing Putin; Putin’s meetings and appeals to NATO members to negotiate. We are supposed to close our eyes to the actions of the Nazi faction within the Ukrainian government including the slaughtering of Russian speaking Ukrainians in the Donbass region. Similarly we are not supposed to acknowledge the CIA’s role nor the biological weapons labs in Ukraine next to the Russian border. I suspect that it would be viewed as inappropriate to draw the obvious parallel between the reaction of US when missiles were to be installed in Cuba vs. the reaction of Russia when the shoe is on the other foot? Presumably it would also be tabu to draw attention to the relationship between Freeland and the Nazi faction within the Ukrainian government or to refer to Canada’s refusal in November 2019 to back a widely supported UN resolution to “Combat the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.” Would it be impolite to mention that the obvious hypocrisy of labelling Putin a war criminal while absolving US and allies of their war crimes? To clarify – I do not support any war but I disagree with the deliberate suppression and distortion of such information.

What Canadians are missing is that Ukraine is located right on the border with Russia. As such it has to take the superpower’s national security concerns into account. Pushing for NATO member ship is simply provoking Russia to act as it did. The history of the situation includes American interference in the internal affairs of Ukraine with its fostering of a violent coup in 2014 and rthe subsequent Crimean exit from Ukraine and the demand of the Eastern provinces for independence. Think, why should these provinces take orders from an illegal government in Kiev? Russia has existential reasons to protect its national security from negative Western influences and military interference. Like JFK 60 years ago, Russia says nyet to Ukraine membership in NATO and nyet to US missile bese in Ukraine. JFK did the same thing to Soviet missile bases in Cuba. What’s sauce for the goose is suuce for the gander. This situation would not have occured if Clinton’s promise to Gorbachev had held, but no the US defrauded and cheated Russia.
