Wow - I have some news to share.
I missed writing to you over the holidays – that’s because a few little elves and I made some exciting changes to PeaceQuest.
First, the newsletter is much easier to enjoy. Now you can read everything right in the email - no more clicking on each article’s headline.
Second, welcome to Substack.com, PeaceQuest’s new premier reader-supported subscription network for independent writers and creators. Take a look around!
And perhaps most importantly, I want to offer a special gift when you become a paid subscriber to support peace education at $5.50 per month.
Subscribe now at $5.50/month, and claim your free copy of Naomi Klein's "Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World" (hardcover, a $38 value).
Our Saturday morning newsletter will continue to be delivered for free - and paid subscribers support peace education and receive some extra benefits, too.
Our goal is 25 new paid subscribers in January, moving toward 300 paid subscribers before the end of the year. Thank you <3
Scrap the cap! Canada must rescue many more people trapped in Gaza
Our country is a beacon of peace for so many - Syrians, Ukrainians, Afghans, and people fleeing war have been welcomed by the tens of thousands in recent years.
But why not Palestinians trapped in Gaza?
Slow to respond, this week Canada’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller finally announced a special extended family program for people in Gaza which is set to launch next week.
But it’s far too few.
The program will offer visas to a maximum of 1,000 Palestinians to take refuge in Canada for three years if their families are willing to financially support them. After 1000 applications are received, the door is slammed shut.
CTV news reported the cap represents a huge underestimate of the number of people who need help, and The National Council of Canadian Muslims is calling on the federal government to remove the cap, according to CBC.
I’m hoping that you will take a moment to send an urgent message to Immigration Minister Mark Miller urging him to “scrap the cap.”
