Good morning – Here is your Saturday newsletter.
This week you can take a 5-question survey on the war in Gaza, and then compare your views with other Canadians, and Americans.
And, I want to know what you are reading this summer for next week’s newsletter. Send me the name, author and title of what is on your coffee table, and tell me why other readers might like it, too!
Remember you can support peace education and claim your free copy of “The Peace: A Warrior's Journey,” by retired general Romeo Dallaire (hardcover, a $34 value) when you become a paid subscriber.
Steve
No doubt, you have an opinion about the war in Gaza. These days it’s likely hard to find anyone who does not have an opinion about who’s right, who’s wrong, and what should be done.
But in the “mirror world” of social media that tends to provide us with a reflection of our own pre-conceived opinions, we might gain a false impression of where our views stand in comparison with everybody else’s.
Take the 5-question survey on Gaza
Here is a fun survey for you to see how your opinions compare with a survey of Canadians broadly. Do most Canadians agree with you, or disagree?
The Angus Reid Institute conducted an online survey from May 24-28, 2024 among a representative randomized sample of 1,603 Canadian adults who are members of Angus Reid Forum. They surveyed Americans, too.
The survey found that attitudes and sympathies about the conflict between Israel and Hamas have changed by over 10 points since November in Canada, and to a slightly lesser degree in the United States.
Answer the questions below, and then I’ll show you how your response compares to others. (And if you'd rather skip the survey and just read the results, you can visit the Angus Reid Institute report on its website: https://angusreid.org/israel-gaza-ceasefire-biden-trudeau/
What are you reading this summer?
PeaceQuest readers love to read. So, what are you reading right now?
Please share the book title, author, and let me know why you might (or might not) recommend it to other peacequest readers.
Just send me an email at sstaples@peacequest.ca and we’ll include it next week’s summer reading list.
